Abstract

This study explores the daily activity patterns of senior citizens aged 60 years and above, focusing on both rural and urban settings, using data from the Time Use Survey Report, 2019 by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI). The research aims to analyze the percentage of elderly individuals participating in various daily activities and the average time spent on these activities, with a particular emphasis on identifying gender disparities. The activities examined include employment, domestic services, caregiving, social engagement, cultural and leisure activities, and self-care.

Using descriptive and comparative analysis, the study reveals significant differences in participation rates and time allocation across rural and urban settings, as well as between male and female senior citizens. The findings indicate that while men are more engaged in employment-related activities, women are predominantly involved in unpaid domestic work and caregiving. Social and cultural participation remains high among both genders, but with varying levels of time commitment. The study concludes that addressing these disparities through targeted interventions and supportive policies is essential to enhancing the overall well-being and quality of life of the elderly population. This research contributes valuable insights for policymakers and social service providers, highlighting the need for gender-sensitive and location-specific strategies to support active and fulfilling lives for senior citizens.
