AI Policy

Veritas Journal of Social, Legal and Humanistic Studies (VJSLHS), published by The Global Publishers, is committed to maintaining the highest standards of academic integrity, transparency, originality, and responsible scholarly communication. This policy outlines the acceptable use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Generative AI tools during manuscript preparation and publication. The journal's editorial practices are informed by internationally recognized recommendations, including those of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME).

1. Acceptable Use of AI Tools

Authors may use AI-assisted tools in a limited and supportive capacity during manuscript preparation. Appropriate uses include:

  • Grammar, spelling, punctuation, and language editing.
  • Improving clarity, readability, and writing style without altering the scholarly meaning.
  • Formatting assistance and manuscript organization.
  • Brainstorming or generating outlines that are independently developed and verified by the authors.

Authors remain fully responsible for reviewing, verifying, and correcting all AI-assisted content before submission.

2. Unacceptable Use of AI Tools

AI tools must not be used to replace the authors' original intellectual contribution. The following practices are prohibited:

  • Generating original research findings, scientific or legal arguments, analyses, interpretations, or conclusions without substantial human intellectual contribution.
  • Fabricating, manipulating, or falsifying data, citations, references, images, tables, figures, or research results.
  • Creating fictitious references or inaccurate citations.
  • Producing peer review reports or editorial evaluations using AI without prior authorization from the editorial office.
  • Using AI in any manner that compromises research integrity or authorship responsibility.

3. Disclosure of AI Use

Authors must disclose any significant use of AI tools during manuscript preparation.

If AI has been used beyond routine language editing, an AI Use Statement should be included in the Acknowledgements section or another appropriate section of the manuscript, specifying:

  • The name of the AI tool or software.
  • The purpose for which it was used.
  • The extent of its use.
  • A statement confirming that all AI-assisted content has been reviewed and verified by the authors.

Routine spell-checking, grammar correction, and basic language editing generally do not require disclosure unless they materially influenced the manuscript.

4. Authorship

Artificial Intelligence systems, including generative AI tools, cannot be listed as authors or co-authors. AI tools cannot assume responsibility for the accuracy, integrity, originality, or ethical conduct of scholarly work. Authorship is restricted to individuals who satisfy the journal's authorship criteria.

5. Author Responsibility

Authors bear full responsibility for every aspect of their submitted manuscript, including any content generated or assisted by AI tools. Authors must ensure that:

  • All information is accurate and properly verified.
  • The manuscript is original and free from plagiarism.
  • References and citations are authentic and correctly presented.
  • AI-generated inaccuracies, biases, or fabricated content have been identified and removed.
  • The manuscript complies with all ethical and editorial requirements of the journal.

6. Editorial Assessment

The editorial office may evaluate manuscripts for undisclosed AI use, plagiarism, fabricated content, manipulated images, or other forms of academic misconduct using appropriate editorial assessment methods and available software tools.

AI detection software may be used as one element of the editorial assessment process. Editorial decisions are based on expert human evaluation and the overall originality, transparency, integrity, and scholarly merit of the manuscript rather than any automated detection score.

7. Peer Review and Editorial Confidentiality

Reviewers and editors must not upload confidential manuscripts, reviewer reports, or unpublished research into publicly accessible AI systems or generative AI platforms unless the journal has explicitly authorized the use of secure and confidential AI-assisted editorial tools that comply with applicable privacy and confidentiality requirements.

8. Non-Compliance

Failure to disclose significant AI use, fabrication of AI-generated content, submission of fictitious references, or any other misuse of AI that compromises research integrity may result in one or more of the following actions:

  • Request for clarification or revision.
  • Rejection of the manuscript.
  • Withdrawal or retraction of a published article.
  • Notification of the authors' institution or funding organization in cases of serious ethical misconduct.
  • Restriction of future submissions to the journal.

9. Policy Review

As Artificial Intelligence technologies continue to evolve, VJSLHS will periodically review and update this policy to reflect developments in scholarly publishing, research ethics, and international best practices. Authors are encouraged to consult the latest version of this policy before submitting their manuscripts.
